Microsoft seems to be cheapening their good name with items like this. This mouse might still be okay if you are on an extreme budget but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no other choice. This strikes me as deceptive and clearly unnecessary - why not make it a variant of the original model name/number so at least people are not tricked into thinking they're getting the same thing again. The overall effect is that they've taken a basic but decent mouse and made it cheaper whilst calling it by the same model name and number.

The scroll wheel is now plastic and not rubber coated and it moves far too loosely compared to the original version of this mouse. The mouse no longer has the rubberised grip around the edge, it's cheap plastic I previously owned a Comfort 4500 mouse and simply wanted to replace it with a new one, but even though the description makes no reference to the changes they've clearly reduced the quality in several key ways: The leaflets were a bit wavy as though they had got slightly damp at some point and the mouse itself a bit dusty and a teeny bit scuffed. One other thing, I bought this one in the Business packaging as I don't feel the need to pay extra for retail packaging but to be honest it almost seemed as though what I had bought was perhaps a v.g.c. I do wish companies would remember the old saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it" and leave things that work well alone Hopefully I'll be able to return this one at least. Trying to find a mouse that actually fits properly in my hand without getting a cramp after half an hour or so due to the tiny stature of many of the newer ones an the not so tiny stature of my hands is proving to be a tad difficult, not to mention expensive with all the trial and error involved. it's just a really quite unpleasant experience.

The area you click at the front is quite stiff - and add that to the more downward sloping front part and the greasiness and basically it's all you can do to stop it shooting backwards in your hand every time you click on something! Changing direction quickly has it sliding around again. There is a coating around the lower part that allegedly is for better grip but it has a horrible greasiness to it that not only feels awful but also makes it pretty difficult to grip at all. How wrong was I? This is smaller for a start off and now the front of the mouse slopes down more, altering the way it sits in the hand. Unfortunately, they are no longer available and so I ordered this one thinking it would be the same but updated some. Over the last few months it started getting a bit temperamental and then finally gave up altogether so I needed to find a replacement. I've had the comfort 3000 for several years and loved it.
